Shanghai Stocks Close Up 0.21 %

China benchmark Shanghai stock index closed up 0.21 percent on Wednesday, despite some profit-taking after rising above the key 4,000-point level, dealers said.

The Shanghai Composite Index added 8.38 points to 4,026.05 on turnover of 678.8 billion yuan ($ 111.3 billion).

The Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China second exchange, rose 1.01 percent, or 22.88 points, to 2,287.98 on turnover of 605.1 billion yuan.

Tokyo Stocks Down 0.21% by Break

Tokyo stocks lost early gains to finish Monday morning’s session down 0.21 percent, despite upbeat Japanese growth data and a weak yen.

The Nikkei 225 index at the Tokyo Stock Exchange fell 42.27 points to 20,418.63 by the break, while the Topix index of all first-section shares dipped 0.39 percent, or 6.49 points, to 1,660.57.
