Hong Kong Shares End 1.82% Higher

Hong Kong stocks surged 1.82 percent Monday — their first trading day since the Christmas break — following another record close on Wall Street and fresh easing measures from Chinese authorities.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index rose 423.84 points to 23,773.18 on turnover of HK$ 80.42 billion (US$ 10.38 billion).

In mainland China the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index added 0.33 percent, or 10.42 points, to 3,168.02 on turnover of 555.9 billion yuan ($ 90.8 billion).

The Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China’s second exchange, fell 1.46 percent, or 20.99 points, to 1,418.49 on turnover of 261.7 billion yuan.
