U.S. stock-index futures rose after the Standard & Poorâ€™s 500 Index rebounded from its biggest monthly decline in a year.
Office Depot Inc. surged 13 percent in premarket New York trading after the Wall Street Journal reported the company is in advanced merger talks with Staples Inc. Staples rose 8.5 percent. Exxon Mobil Corp. and ConocoPhillips climbed, tracking oilâ€™s longest rally since August.
Contracts on the S&P 500 expiring in March added 0.3 percent to 2,022.5 at 10:56 a.m. in London. Crudeâ€™s rise yesterday sparked gains in energy shares that helped the S&P 500 rebound from a monthly loss to rise 1.3 percent. Dow Jones Industrial Average futures added 46 points, or 0.3 percent, to 17,345 today.
