A late-day rally for Hong Kong stocks sent the benchmark index to its highest close in a week, as property developers surged. Mainland equities also gained.
The Hang Seng Index rose 1.1 percent to 22,754.72 at the close, with virtually all of the gains coming in the last half of trading. Henderson Land Development and Sun Hung Kai Properties advanced at least 2.9 percent. The Shanghai Composite Index added 0.4 percent as China’s markets closed an hour before those in Hong Kong.
